What happens before an Ultrasound scan?

For self referral patients, you will be able to have a conversation with a consultant radiologist who will advise you which scan/s are the best to make your diagnosis.

Do I need to take some preparation for the Ultrasound scan?

Not all the Ultrasound scans needs preparation.
You will be advised with any required preparation beforehand over the phone and a copy will be sent by e-mail.

What happens on the day of the Ultrasound scan?

A consultant radiologist will scan you and discuss the findings at the same time. You will know the result at the same time.

What happens after the ultrasound scan?

You will resume your activities with no restrictions, eat and drink as normal.
You will have the official report within 24hrs.
You will be benefiting from the medical recommendations.
A copy of the report will be sent to your GP.

What happens before an MRI scan?

For self referral patients, Consultant radiologist will discuss the clinical condition with patient and advise the best scan for diagnosis. At the same time , the consultant radiologist will make sure that there are no contraindications for the scan.
The consultant radiologist will protocol your examination.
You will have an appointment as soon as possible. We scan during the weekend and weekdays.

What happens during the MRI scan?

On the day of examination, you will be checked in at the reception. A staff member will meet you . You will sign safety questionnaire.
You will have your scan which takes approximately 20 minutes depending on the type of scan.
In some conditions, You might have IV contrast injection to help in characterisation of certain lesions.
During the scan, you be able to talk to the radiographer.
After the scan, you will be able to resume all your normal activities, eating and drinking as normal.

What happens after the MRI scan?

A consultant radiologist will report your scan within 48hrs.
You will be able to discuss the findings with the consultant radiologist including any further management. The report will be sent to your GP.
